Yolo, exhausted after exploring the ruins, decides to bunk down for the night before heading back to civilization. It's two days rough hiking to the nearest town, and with one fewer person in the retinue, it's a more dangerous journey.

- I walk towards the exit to see what time it is. You never can tell when you've spent a bunch of time underground.

- You come out of the ruins to see that it's dusk. The sun is setting and will be below the horizon soon.

Hour of light... maybe two. And no one to take watch... Better to sleep here. The traps are just as dangerous to me as they are anyone else. I can set up some noise makers besides.`

- I retreat into the ruins again, setting a couple of trip wires with bangles on them here, and two more as I get closer to the barracks. If I'm going to sleep here, may as well do it in the room made for sleeping.

"You know" she says as she tears off a piece of jerky with her teeth and lays her pack beside the most complete bed, "as awful as Lady Eadriel could be, at least the food was good and the beds were soft." Here, she chews thoughtfully for a moment. "Honestly, the lady wasn't so bad; it was the guild... and her customers. Rich assholes...". She takes a big swig from the canteen. "This is better, right? Rotting bedding, meager rations," she taps the side of the canteen, "barely enough water to make it home, and a dead friend. Master of my own fucking destiny!"
She heaves a sigh. "Enough of that. Let's see what's in that journal. Maybe the symbol comes up elsewhere, maybe the artifact."

I spent the rest of the evening resting and pouring over Dax's journal. It was... challenging to focus with him moldering just over yonder, but it seemed important, and I wasn't having any luck falling asleep in strange places.
Dax knew more than he let on, he always did. The gemstone we were looking for contains information in it. The circlet records the memories of a wearer into a gemstone, not unlike a phonograph. They can be played back at a later date. Seems the recording process is a bit rough. Dax was pretty sure it would kill the wearer, or at least wipe out their memories.
Again, like a phonograph, the circlet can also be used to view the memories stored in the stone. He's not exactly clear on how it could be done, just that it was possible.

- I take the circlet out of the bag and examine it. Other than the center gem stone, are there obvious parts that move, go in or out, etc?

- The stone seats into an inset with a metal plate backing it. You pop out the stone as you examine the piece, and notice that the stone is rough in your hand, even though it appears smooth like glass. There's a small needle on the inset location. This piece swivels and turns around. You can point the tip at your head, or you can point the tip at the gem.

- Hmmm... I wonder just how much like a phonograph it is... Still, that might be unwise out here, alone, in the wilderness.
- I wonder if his journal has anything on the bas relief. Either the picture or the text.
